Let's Jump into - Drinking - Water!

We talked about this a couple months ago, but we're here again because we are at Rule #5 this week! Drink 8 cups of water daily. This can be hard for all of us, especially when we're more likely to start our day off with 8 cups of coffee instead. (I hope that's an exaggeration, but I'm sure 1-2 isn't.) Let's review some of the reasons we listed on why it is important to drink water:

  1. It improves workouts
  2. It makes you more aware
  3. It battles constipation
  4. It jumpstarts metabolism

Okay, so we know water is important. But it's still so hard. So let's talk some tips and tricks to focus on water first.

1. Drink a Glass of Water BEFORE your Coffee - Yikes, I know that seems hard. But, then you're already down 1 glass for the day, you've jumpstarted your metabolism, and you've put something into your stomach before you overload it with caffeine, and possibly milk, cream, or sugar too. Also, if we are drinking water and getting sleep, the water truly will boost our energy as much as that first cup of coffee. But, following Rule #2, Eat What You Love, so it's okay to enjoy the coffee, just try to drink a glass of water first.

2. Add Fruit for Flavor -If water tastes too plain for you, and that's why you go for juice or other beverages instead, add fruit! Adding lemon to your water can aid in digestion and hydration. But if lemon isn't your cup of tea, try other fruits. Blueberries, strawberries, or cucumber are other great options.

3. Find a Cup or a Water Bottle You Like - I know, this tip sounds strange, but it's true! Think about children. They never want to drink water unless they have a straw and a "cool" water bottle. Trust me, we haven't changed. We might not need the straw anymore (or maybe we do, I like straws), but we will drink more water when we like where it's coming from. So invest in a water bottle that you love, so you'll want to carry it, and you'll remember to drink water throughout the day. We're swapping out the recipe this week so I can plug my favorite on-the-go water! Sometimes when I'm hiking or on a trip and I don't want to bring my reusable bottle, I bring Flow. The packaging is eco-friendly so I don't feel as guilty for using them. (Like I do with plastic.) Flow uses Alkaline Spring water and also comes in different flavors. I receive no benefit for this, just want to share my favorites!!
