If you're like most people, you've probably started a diet at some point in your life. You probably think diet means restriction and maybe you even find restriction hard.

Well, yea, it’s nearly impossible and sends our brains into overdrive to find something that feels more pleasurable than restriction. Let’s quit restriction. So our minds can be at peace. Let’s see diet as a way of life, as a lifestyle. And let’s live the way we feel our best and re-gain a healthy relationship with food.

Failing at “diets” is incredibly common. In fact, studies show that 95% of all diets fail. So let's not do that. As we are in the throes of our holiday season, we are having heightened experiences, more food, more shopping, too much food, too much spending. How can we do this holiday season at peace with all things.

Let’s find our groove by getting into a routine that is just pure, self-care.

I know sleep feels indulgent, especially in the cold winter months. But that is what warm clothes are for. This month let’s get up 10-15 minutes earlier every morning so we can add in some time to meditate or stretch or read. It may not seem like much but your mind will find it pleasurable to be uninterrupted and will start looking forward to this time.

Next, make a plan to drink your 8 cups of water a day. It can be warm, you can also add lemon. Here is how I plan on doing it:

Drinking 2 cups of water before 10:30 a.m.

Drink 2 cups of water at my noon time meal

Drink 1-2 cups of water by 4:30 p.m.

Finally, topping it off by drinking 2 cups by 7 p.m.

Parties, gatherings, vacations are all part of this season- lets’ eat when we are hungry, and start with half of your normal portion- eat it slowly and wait fifteen minutes to see if you need more. You can do this at your office party, at a lunch meeting, in Italy or even in Hawaii. Be mindful, be hungry and be slow. Eat the foods you love- enjoy each bite, and honor the way your body feels.

I know the past is in the past, I think you know this too. So, let’s move on from your history and begin again. No restriction, all food is equal, be hungry when you eat. Love what you are eating.

The important thing to remember is that you only fail if you stop. As long as you keep trying, you haven't failed.

So don't beat yourself up if you screw up your plan. Just focus on the fact that you're still trying, and keep going. You'll get there.

Plus, we are standing by you! With the Kim Shapira Method, you have a whole community of people trying to do better, and we can all support each other.

You got this!
