✨ Gratitude, Cookies, and Choices That Change Everything

As we move through fall, let’s look at two practical tools you already have: gratitude and intention. Both help you feel lighter, calmer, and more in charge of your choices. The best part? You don’t need willpower to use them. These tools help you build real, lasting change. ✨

Pause and name three things you’re grateful for. Notice how your mood shifts. Even when life feels heavy, gratitude can lighten the load. It helps you see your situation in a new light. 💛

Now, apply that same awareness to food. Craving a cookie? You’re not alone. Cookies are great - no argument there. 🍪 But ask yourself: Am I really hungry, or is something else going on? Often, it’s discomfort, stress, or boredom. The brain remembers quick fixes, but the real issue is something deeper. Cookies don’t solve the root cause; they just distract us for a moment.

Try this: next time, pause instead of eating right away. The urge usually passes in about 15 minutes. When you do this, you learn you can handle tough feelings without using food. That’s real self-trust. Gratitude helps here, too. Be thankful when you eat because you’re truly hungry, and be thankful when you choose not to eat just to soothe emotions. Both choices make you stronger.

Which brings us to intention. Gratitude opens the door, but intention keeps you walking in the right direction. Intention is deciding, in advance, what aligns with your health and your values, even when life throws distractions your way. For me, it looked like soy lattes. I loved them. But when I learned soy can be linked to hormonal cancers, I knew I needed to change. Did I quit cold turkey? Nope. I cut back slowly, sometimes opting for coffee, sometimes for tea, and eventually letting go of soy altogether. It wasn’t easy, but it was intentional. Ultimately, that one choice had a significant impact on my health.

So here’s your challenge this week: 🌱

  • Next time you feel pulled toward food, stop and ask: Am I really hungry, or do I need something else?

  • List three things you’re grateful for in that moment. 🙏

  • Set your intention. Choose the action that supports your health, even if it feels hard.

This is how you build loving internal power: by stacking gentle, loving choices that align with who you want to become. You don’t need force or willpower when you’re living from a place of gratitude and intention. 💪

Oprah said, “I got everything because I practiced being grateful.” She’s right. Gratitude changes your story. Intention points you forward. 📖

Your body, your mind, and your choices are medicine. Trust yourself to use them well.

With gratitude and intention, 💫
