The Secret is Out: Your Energy Isn't Lost, It's Just Waiting to Be Invited Back
I know the feeling. We all do. We convince ourselves that energy comes from another latte, pushing through meetings, or mindlessly scrolling during a "break." Especially during the holidays, that belief gets LOUDER. Parties, travel, school events, and suddenly we are stress-eating out of the candy bowl because dinner was delayed and we didn’t stop long enough to breathe.
(Seriously, if hustle were an Olympic sport, we’d all have gold medals and zero gas left in the tank!)
But what if the answer wasn't hustle? What if it was whispering?
As I talk about in my book, This Is What You're Really Hungry For, Energy is not something you hustle for; it’s something you invite back. It comes from alignment. When your habits match what your body actually needs, energy naturally returns. When you override those needs, exhaustion becomes the default.
Here’s the part people often miss: My Six Simple Rules are usually the missing piece. There are no restrictions. They are a gentle structure that brings your mind and body back together, helps you trust your instincts, and finally makes it feel possible, even during holiday chaos.
A Little Nudge (A True Story)
I was recently talking to "Brian" (not his real name, but you know him - he's the nice guy trying to do too much). Brian is a working dad with two teens, a busy household, and a boss who emails at all hours. He came to me via Zoom feeling “tired in his soul.”
He thought he had an energy problem. I told him it was actually a listening problem.
He tried following my Six Simple Rules for just two days. Day two, he slowed down, ate while sitting down, checked in with his hunger cues, drank water intentionally, and even went to bed earlier.
He texted me the next morning: "I have energy and I do not need caffeine yet."
This is what happens when the Six Simple Rules finally support you instead of controlling you.
Your Six Simple Reminders
These aren't rigid rules; they are fun, soft reminders you can offer yourself every day. Which one feels like the kindest invitation today?
Eat When You're Hungry: It's a gift to listen. Take a breath, serve a portion, and check in 15 gentle minutes later.
Eat What You Love: No shame, no guilt. Savor it! Enjoyment is the beautiful, necessary partner.
Eat Without Distraction: Give your food and your body the respect of your full, present attention. (That email can wait!)
Walk 10,000 Steps: This is not punishment; it's movement for joy, for breathing, for clearing the lovely clutter in your mind.
Drink 8 Glasses of Water: The simplest reset. Hydration is the true foundation of feeling alive. (If you're not hydrated, you're basically a houseplant begging for a drink!)
Sleep 7 hours: Your deep repair time. Protect it like it’s the secret to everything.
❓ Five Questions for a Soft Landing
Let's just notice, shall we? There is no judgment here, only curiosity. (Alice in Wonderland style)
The Pause: If you could magically stop time for one meal today and honestly eat without distraction, which meal would it be? (Rule 3)
The Pleasure Principle: What is one food that makes you feel genuinely happy that you will treat yourself to today because you love it (Rule 2)?
The Boundary: What is the one thing you will put away 30 minutes before bed tonight to honor your 7 hours of sleep (Rule 6)?
The Flow: Where in your day can you gently weave in more movement to help you reach your 10,000 steps (Rule 4)?
The Quiet Whisper: If your body could talk to you right now, what is the loudest thing it would tell you about its hunger or thirst (Rules 1 & 5)?
✨ The Beautiful Ripple Effect
When you choose this quieter path, the change is never small. These tiny, intentional whispers create a beautiful ripple effect that touches every corner of your world:
You become softer with the people you love.
Decisions feel lighter because your mind isn't fighting for survival.
The holiday season feels like a joy you get to experience, not a marathon you have to survive.
Your energy is not gone. It’s waiting for you to come back home to your body. Small shifts. Massive ripple.
