Think About This: YOU DON’T HAVE TO “FIT IN” TO BELONG.
But, YOU do have to give a SHIFT.
Well, here we are, closing out the year. I wrote this heartfelt Substack and thought I would share it here:
Our second Membership Group was a few days ago, and I truly enjoyed it. Each participant adds valuable insights to the group. It felt real and unfiltered, showing what happens when we stop pretending to have everything under control. I find these groups incredibly fulfilling and love being part of them.
At the end of the first meeting, I received an email from a client. Let’s call her Sarah.
Sarah had seen the emails and social media posts, but she didn’t join. She wrote:
“Kim, I really wanted to be there, but I got scared. I’ve never done a group thing. I feel like everyone else probably has this ‘wellness’ thing figured out, and I’m still struggling with the basics. I’m afraid I won’t fit in.”
My heart broke a little, because I know that feeling. The feeling that we need to be “fixed” before we can be seen. The feeling that we need to wait until January, or until we lose 10 pounds, or until we are “perfect” before we are allowed to ask for support.
Think about this: Isolation is a pattern. Thinking you are the “only one” struggling is a pattern.
I wrote back to Sarah immediately: “You don’t need to ‘fit in.’ You just need to show up. The people in that room aren’t there because they are perfect. They are there because they are done doing it alone.”
This is your Week 51 reality check.
We are heading into the busiest, most chaotic weeks of the year. The temptation to isolate, to hide, or to say “I’ll just deal with my body in January” is at an all-time high.
But your body doesn’t own a calendar. Your inflammation doesn’t care that it’s December 16th. Waiting until you are “ready” is just another way to delay the peace you deserve.
So here is my challenge to you this week:
Don’t wait to be ready. Don’t wait to “fit in.”
Whether it’s joining a group, making a snack, or just taking 5 minutes to breathe amidst the holiday madness, DO IT! AND- do it messily. Do it imperfectly.
We aren’t looking for perfection in Week 51. We are looking for protection. Protect your energy. Protect your peace. And know that you belong here, exactly as you are.
